Emancipation presents Tyrone Birkett’s powerful Postmodern Spirituals—reimagining the Freedom Song through modern jazz, Black church sonics, soul music, and minimalism. Led by Birkett on saxophone and featuring the commanding vocals of his wife Paula, the ensemble creates a rich, immersive soundscape.

Intricate harmonies, funk- and jazz-driven rhythms, carefully constructed arrangements, and soulful improvisation come together in a deeply moving performance that honors tradition while speaking boldly to the present.
